The change in quality of this film was so pronounced that I felt it had been directed by two different people. Here we have the deleted and extended takes of many scenes, that speak for themselves. It basically begins to fall apart when Ralph Fiennes becomes the replacement actor for the young man who appears earlier in the film. The story is heartbreaking because it reminds us that we are all struggling with guilt, emotions, and the legacy we have created for ourselves by our actions or inactions. In the hands of a skillful teacher, the threads of interwoven emotional and moral themes could be teased apart and could contribute to emerging young adults in helping them in their own moral formation. This was a great movie for the first 1 1/2 hours. Arendt is widely considered one of the most important political thinkers of the 20th century.
